Balance:  a condition in which all elements are in the correct proportions.

What is the definition of health?

Most of the time, we are only aware of our bodies when we are not healthy.  A cold, a stomachache, a sore throat or muscle soreness.  This is the time when we say - I'm sick, I don't feel good or I think I did too much.  In the modern world, we don't spend much time listening to our bodies -  until there is something wrong.

In the homeopathic view, acute illness and chronic disease are a sign that something within us is out of balance.  The body tries to right this imbalance using it's own natural healing ability.  But, sometimes, for whatever reason, the imbalance remains.

Homeopathy takes a holistic view of this state of imbalance.  The emotions, intellect, teeth, muscles, hormones, joints, circulation and organs of a person are all living within one body.  From a holistic perspective - all of these elements exist inside a single system.  The sum of the whole is greater than the parts alone - and the parts do not exist alone, they make up the whole.  Using this frame of mind, a homeopathic evaluation of health is not only measured by physical symptoms, but also of our inner mental and emotional state.  Achieving balance on all of these levels is the definition of health.
